Vehicles and Equipment
In response to a growing demand for maintaining trail and parking
lot lights, tree trimming in parks and boulevards, and other
miscellaneous duties (hanging banners, flag repairs, etc.), Public
Works added a used bucket truck to its maintenance fleet. The
vehicle purchased was a used 2006 unit on a 2007 Ford P550
chassis. This purchase price was $49,900 but staff negotiated
down to $45,000. A new model similar to this would cost upwards
of $150,000. A 2000 Ford % ton 44 pickup with plow was also
replaced with a 2012 Ford F350 44 with plow and rear lift gate
for $36,700. This truck was budgeted for $36,000 and the old
truck was auctioned for nearly $10,000. In addition, a new trailer
mounted air compressor was purchased to replace the aged 1980
model.
Administration/Engineering (AX) Division
Like the previous several years, the workload of the A/E division was very
challenging in 2012. In addition to normal day-to-day duties, the A/E
division was responsible to oversee many improvement projects with
estimated costs of $5,112,116 as included in the 2012 adopted budget and
Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Although some of the projects and
equipment upgrades were deferred due to insufficient staffing or other
reasons, the three person A/E staff was extremely busy and committed to
doing what was needed to successfully complete or progress these projects.
The 2012 budget and CIP also had programmed various capital equipment
upgrades valued at over $200,000 that the A/E division and maintenance
supervisors oversaw.
There were 50 right-of-way permits issued in 2012 which generated
$11,860 in revenue. There were also 23 water service repair permits, 11
sewer service repair permits, and one land disturbance. In addition, there
were private improvements for sanitary sewer replacements, driveway
widening, and second -driveway curb cut for private improvements
completed in Area E of the Street and Utility Improvement Program.
Miscellaneous A/E Activities
A/E staff also performed the following activities during 2012:
• Maintenance Methods for Traffic Sign Retroreflectivity (January)
Illicit Discharge and Connection Ordinance (February)
Public Info. Meeting for Wellhead Protection Plan (March)
• Public Info. Meeting for Area E construction (April)
Emerald Ash Borer as regulated tree pest ordinance (April)
• Arbor Day celebration (April)
• National Public Works Week (May)
Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program meeting (June)
Lambert Park Ribbon Cutting/Open House (November)
• Parks & Rec. & Forestry Commission meetings (12 total)
• Streets and Utilities Committee meetings (5 total)
40+ Resolutions
• Hundreds of in-person customer assistance events
7,500+ phone calls (A/E only)
2012 Ford F350 44
2012 ANNUAL REPORT ) DEPT.
