City Council Activity (Continued) <br />Many of the issues and topics discussed at work sessions were further considered at regular <br />meetings, although a few were intended simply as a means to keep the City Council informed on <br />various subjects and to assess whether further action on a matter was warranted. A few of the <br />more notable discussions are illustrated below. <br />Jan 3: Reviewed potential acquisition of the PAK Building property <br />Jan 3: Discussed the County Road 10 Corridor <br />Feb 6: Discussed Fiscal Disparities Program <br />Feb 6: Discussed Goals and Desired Outcomes of the Feb 16 Council / Staff Retreat <br />Mar 5: Reviewed City of Coon Rapids Home for Generations Program <br />Mar 5: Reviewed Citizen of the Year nominations <br />Apr 2: Listened to presentation from Susan Nemitz, Director, Ramsey County Libraries <br />Apr 2: Listened to presentation from staff at Edgewood Middle School <br />Apr 2: Heard presentation from the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission <br />Apr 2: Reviewed the EDC's County Road 10 beautification recommendations <br />May 7: Received presentation from MnDOT on area construction projects <br />May 7: Presentation from Cor Wilson on franchise negotiations with Comcast <br />June 4: Presentation from new business prospect Apple Tree Dental <br />June 4: Presentation from the Tri -City County Road 10 task force <br />June 4: Verbal report regarding AC/B Airport operations from Joe Harris, Airport Manager <br />July 2: Reviewed observations from the June 14 Urban Land Institute workshop <br />Aug 6: Discussed revised estimates for new signage on MnDOT corridors <br />Oct 1: Reviewed the City Forester position and staffing alternatives <br />Oct 1: Discussed the Home Improvement Loan Program requirements <br />Nov 5: Discussed possibility of creating County Road 10 Corridor visioning task force <br />The Council did not hold a work session in September due to scheduling conflict with Labor Day <br />holiday and a lack of time -sensitive discussion items. <br />Urban Land Institute MN (ULI-MN) Workshop <br />The City was fortunate to have been chosen by ULI-MN to be a site for one of the group's <br />"Navigating the New Normal" roundtable workshop. The panel of experts, led by ULI <br />Minnesota's Gordon Hughes and Cathy Bennett, consisted of Marls Ruff, Ehlers, Inc.; Bill <br />Beard, The Beard Group; Kendra Lindahl, Landform; and John Breitinger, Cushman Wakefield/ <br />Northmarq. The workshop was attended by City Council members as well as members from the <br />Economic Development Commission and the Planning Commission. The meeting was <br />informative and productive, in that it allowed the Council as well as commission members to <br />hear first-hand from industry experts about the realities confronting the City and what it can do <br />to rise above the impediments. After the meeting ULI Minnesota prepared a few observations <br />and potential action steps the City could pursue (shown on following page.) <br />Page 3 <br />
