Plan Review <br />• Performs plan review for new structures, expansions and changes of use to ensure <br />that they conform to all building and fire safety codes and practices. <br />• Reviews building plans and expansion projects for compliance with state and <br />federal accessibility requirements. <br />• May provide plan review services for county and state agencies on an as -needed <br />basis. <br />PERIPHERAL DUTIES <br />• Informs the Community Development Supervisor moo; of any inspection related <br />activities which require immediate attention or action. <br />• Consults with the City Attorney as required to review and ensure legal requirements <br />are being met in all building, housing, and fire code activities, or to initiate legal <br />action to ensure code compliance. <br />• Continually reviews existing code and ordinances for consistency and ease of <br />enforcement and interpretation and recommends modifications on a local, state and <br />national level. <br />• Attends meetings as assigned or as requested when matters relate to <br />responsibilities assigned. <br />• Assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated. <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />Education and Experience: <br />(A) Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent supplemented by two years of <br />related technical instruction in building technology, construction management, <br />mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building construction. <br />(B)Two (2) years of experience conducting building inspections in a municipal <br />r..B�to.i_fu - <br />environment' <br />(C)State Certification as a Building Official <br />NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />(A)Thorough knowledge of uniform building codes, fire codes, plumbing codes, <br />mechanical codes, general construction codes, and a thorough knowledge of <br />carpentry; considerable knowledge in electrical work, carpentry work, cement work, <br />or plumbing, and skill in applying knowledge of the Uniform Building Codes, zoning <br />and land use applications. Knowledge of methods, materials, terminology and <br />practices in general building construction. Knowledge of laws governing zoning and <br />general building construction. <br />(B)Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, architects, <br />engineers, owners, developers, the general public and city personnel. <br />(C) Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints and to <br />communicate effectively orally and in writing <br />(D) Knowledge of practices, principles and techniques of effective code <br />enforcement/fire prevention principles. <br />DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Fire Inspector certifications and experience conducting fire <br />inspections. <br />
