of Mounds View Staff <br />Item No: 9.D. <br />Meeting Date: March 13, 2017 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />00011r— <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Mark Beer, Finance Director <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8828 Accepting a Donation from Bethlehem <br />Baptist Church in the Amount of $16,170.50 and Approving <br />Distribution of Funds as Specified <br />Introduction: <br />Bethlehem Baptist Church purchased the building at 5151 Program Avenue in 2004 and <br />received approval to renovate the former office / warehouse space for church usage. At <br />the same time, the Church expressed its desire to support worthy community endeavors <br />and created the "Mounds View Service Project Fund" pledging annual donations totaling <br />$25,000. They envisioned the fund to be used to help meet certain needs jointly identified <br />by the city and the Church that would be "in harmony' with their mission and values. <br />Discussion: <br />Representatives from the City, the Community Center and the Park & Recreation <br />Commission have discussed potential funding opportunities for the second half 2017 <br />service project fund donation which totals $16,170.50. A number of programs and <br />improvements which had been reviewed by the representatives were highlighted for <br />Bethlehem's consideration. The Church's Pastor for Outreach, Vince Johnson, <br />responded with a letter dated September 12, 2017, recommending the following <br />disbursement schedule: <br />® Shield 616 (protective gear for MVPD) $6,500 <br />• Quincy House $2,500 <br />• Ralph Reeder (food shelf) $2,500 <br />o Early Learning Readiness Program $1,500 <br />• Meeting Room Audio Visual Equipment $3,000 <br />• Miscellaneous $ 170.50 <br />Recommendation: <br />Attached for your consideration is Resolution 8828, a resolution which accepts the <br />donation from Bethlehem Baptist Church in the amount of $16,170.50 and authorizes the <br />distribution of the donations according to the Church's recommendations. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Mark Beer <br />Finance Director <br />
