�m �r Item No: 9.A. <br />MOUNDS M— Meeting Date: October 23, <br />2017 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator review:' <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />MENEc— <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nyle Zikmund, Interim City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8847, Hiring/Appointing Don Peterson to position <br />of Mounds View Public Works Director <br />Background <br />At the October 2, 2017 City Council Workshop the Council discussed staffing issues <br />within the Public Works Division. That discussion included a reorganization plan as well <br />as review of requirements for the Public Works Director position and a consensus to <br />update the position description to reflect the council's consensus. At their October 9, <br />2017 Council meeting the updated position was adopted. On October 10, 2017 the <br />position was posted internally per the adopted resolution. The posting closed Friday <br />October 13, 2017 with a singular application, Don Peterson, submitting the required <br />documents. On October 16, 2017 an interview panel comprised of Councilmembers Hull <br />and Meehlhause along with Public Works Support Specialist Tracy Juell and Interim City <br />Administrator Nyle Zikmund interviewed candidate Peterson. <br />Discussion <br />The interview panel reviewed the job description and compared Mr. Petersons resume <br />and letter along with an unsolicited letter of support received by Mr. Zikmund from Nick <br />DeBar who previously has served as a Public Works Director for Mounds View. At the <br />end of the interview the panel excused Mr. Peterson and considered the documents <br />submitted, letterfrom Mr. DeBar, and the Interview. Additionally, Mr. Peterson has served <br />as an interim director of the division a number of times and that performance was <br />considered as well. <br />Recommendation <br />The panel unanimously is recommending the Council offer/appoint Mr. Don Peterson to <br />the position of Public Works Director effective Tuesday October 23 and that he start at <br />Step 3 in the 2017 Compensation Plan. Upon successful completion of a Probation <br />Period ending on April 20, 2018, Mr. Peterson will receiving a step increase to Level 4. <br />NOTE — Mr. Peterson has requested we discuss a take home vehicle as part of his <br />compensation.
