• Made a presentation to a class about what police officers do and led a tour at the <br />Mounds View PD <br />• Provided surveillance at a bus stop where a man had reportedly tried to lure a student <br />into his vehicle <br />• Assisted a teacher who had received a pornographic email from who he believed was <br />a parent of his student <br />• Managed the school's 2 -way radios <br />• Provided police presence at the annual choir concert <br />• Counseled students about Facebook use <br />• Provided support and counsel to the staff and students in the wake of the Newtown, <br />CT shooting <br />• Advised the Principal as she updated visitor check-in procedures <br />2012 YEAR IN REVIEW <br />The SRO made the following incident reports: <br />• 3 assists to other agencies <br />• 1 child abuse <br />• 2 follow-up investigations <br />• 6 thefts <br />• 1 possession of stolen property <br />• 9 disturbances <br />• 4 assaults <br />• 4 assists to ambulances <br />• 1 terroristic threats <br />• 1 false report to police <br />• 1 vandalism <br />The SRO referred 7 juveniles to the Northwest Youth and Family Services Diversion Program <br />arra 5 juveniles were petitioned to the courts. <br />Edgewood Middle School continued to take a proactive approach towards dealing with <br />students who have excessive tardies and absences from school. The school utilized the SRO <br />by assigning him approximately 10-30 truant students to meet with individually. The SRO <br />educated those students about school truancy laws, problem solved with the students, and <br />called their parents. <br />Edgewood Middle School became a STEAM school and became part of an integration school <br />district. As a result, Edgewood has taken steps to help better prepare students in the areas of <br />science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The school has also arranged for students <br />from outside the Mounds View School District to attend Edgewood in an effort to desegregate <br />the learning environment and provide cross-cultural learning opportunities. <br />In the spring, the Edgewood woodshop class designed and constructed a dog house for the <br />new Mounds View K-9. When construction was completed, Officer Erickson and K-9 Niko <br />came to Edgewood to personally thank the students for building the dog house. In the fall, <br />Officer Erickson and Niko returned to Edgewood to do a demonstration for a Careers with <br />Animals class. <br />0 <br />
