MOUNDS WE—W
of Mounds View Staff R
Item No: 6.G.
Meeting Date: January 22, 2018
Type of Business: Council Business
City Administrator Review:
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Nate Harder, Chief of Police
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8898 Approving the Purchase of Two Ford Police
Interceptor Utility Vehicles, Additional Equipment, and Setup
Costs
Introduction:
The police department has $84,600.00 approved in the 2018 budget to purchase two
police vehicles plus additional equipment and setup costs. Maintaining a reliable and
well kept fleet of police vehicles is essential in providing quality policing services to the
community. The department strives to stay on a 5 year replacement cycle for marked
police vehicles and an 8 year replacement cycle for unmarked/administrative vehicles.
Discussion:
The department is requesting to purchase two 2018 Ford Police Interceptor Utility
vehicles to replace a recently wrecked police interceptor, and one of the scheduled two
vehicles for replacement. The wrecked vehicle will be able to have all of the equipment
removed (cage, lights, camera, computer) and transferred over to one of the new
replacement vehicles.
The Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicle is offered at the state contract price of
$27,462 from Hibbing Ford. The equipment setup costs and graphics installation are
estimated at $14,000. Additional equipment items that are budgeted for are a new
radio for $3,800, a new radar unit for $3,000 and an in -car -camera system for, $5,500.
Total cost is $81,224.
The total cost is below the budgeted amount of $84,600.00 (Fund 460 Department
4200 Account 7040).
Recommendation:
Staff recommends authorizing the purchase of two 2018 Ford Police Interceptor utility
vehicles including all equipment and setup costs.
Respectfully Submitted,
Nate Harder
Chief of Police
