M�ms V <br />ouiEw <br />of Mounds View Staff R <br />Item Nos: 6 & 7 <br />Meeting Date: April 2, 2018 <br />Type of Business: Work Session <br />Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works <br />Item Title/Subject: Long Lake Road Improvements and Approval to Replace Water <br />Main at Long Lake Road and Hillview Road <br />Introduction / Discussion: <br />Ramsey County will be performing road maintenance on Long Lake Road from County <br />Road H2 to County Road J. The road maintenance will consist of milling the current <br />pavement to a depth of 2 inches and re -surface with new asphalt. Ramsey County will re - <br />stripe with the following: <br />• County Road H2 to County Road I, the striping layout proposed will have 11 <br />foot drive lanes, 11 foot center turning lanes, 8.5 foot bike lane on both the <br />East and West sides of the road. No Parking on either side. <br />• County Road I to Eastwood Road, the striping layout proposed will have 11 <br />foot drives lanes, 7 foot bike lanes both on the East and West side, and 8 <br />foot parking on the East side. There will be no parking on the West side of <br />Long Lake Road. <br />• Eastwood Road to County Road J, the striping layout proposed with have 11 <br />foot drive lanes, with a 5 foot reaction zone on each side. There will be No <br />Parking on either sides of the roads. <br />The County will be placing a new trail segment on the North side of Long Lake Road from <br />Eastwood Road to County Road J. The County will also be installing a right turn lane from <br />Long Lake Road to Airport Road. <br />Ramsey County is requesting that the City Council approve, with a resolution, No Parking on <br />the West side of Long Lake Road from County Road I to Eastwood Road and No Parking on <br />both sides of the street from Eastwood Road to County Road J. <br />Ramsey County will host a community meeting for Wednesday, April 11 from 5:00-6:30 pm <br />at the Mounds View Community Center to discuss the project. <br />Further Discussion: <br />In the past several years, there have been three water main breaks at the intersection of <br />Long Lake Road and Hillview Road; Staff is proposing that the water main be replaced <br />during Ramsey County's project. <br />Staff reviewed the history of the water main breaks and considered the condition of the <br />infrastructure along with the expenses to repair the road after each event it would be <br />financially beneficial to replace the water main in conjunction with the County's project. <br />
