MOUNDS VVt E -W <br />of Mounds View Staff R <br />Item No: 8M <br />Meeting Date: June 11, 2018 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Public Works Director <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8978 Accepting Bid and Awarding Contract for the <br />Greenfield and Groveland Parks, Tennis and Basketball Court <br />Rehabilitation Project <br />Background: <br />The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission along with Public Works Staff have been <br />evaluating options for the tennis and basketball court surfaces at Greenfield and <br />Groveland Parks. <br />These playing surfaces vary in age and condition and multiple options were considered <br />for improvements. Ideas included total reconstruction, resurfacing or placing a tile system. <br />After looking into the options the Commission felt it would be best to hire a consultant to <br />evaluate the playing surface and bring forward recommendations. <br />Fred Kolkman of Fred Kolkman Tennis & Sport Surfaces LLC was contacted to perform <br />the evaluations and provide the Commission a report for options for all of the playing <br />surfaces in the Parks. <br />Plans and specifications for the rehabilitation of the tennis and basketball courts at <br />Greenfield and Groveland Parks were approved and authorized for bid. <br />Discussion: <br />The public bid opening was on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. and the City received <br />two bids, Omann Contracting Companies Inc, and Bituminous Roadways Inc. <br />Omann submitted a base bid of: $209,000.00 <br />Alternate 1, for fencing $ 18,250.00 <br />Total of $227,250.00 <br />With a unit price at $40.00 per cubic yard. <br />Bituminuos Roadways submitted a base bid of $179,425.00 <br />Alternate 1, for fencing $ 18,150.00 <br />Total of $197,575.00 <br />With a unit cost of $60.00 per cubic yard. <br />The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission met on Tuesday, June 5th to review the <br />bids. The Commission voted to move forward with the rehabilitation project with <br />Bituminous Roadways. <br />
