The agenda for last year’s Town Hall Meeting is attached for Council review. Would
the Council like to retain the same format and order of items? I would recommend adding
a “welcome” line item to the agenda, the purpose for which is rather obvious. Previous
Town Hall Meetings have always started with a welcome by the mayor and introductions of
the Council and staff, we may as well include it in the agenda as the opening item.

The bulk of the Town Hall Meeting is taken up by the Mayor’s address and the review of
goals and priorities, both past and present. While I am happy to lead the goals / priorities
discussion, I think it would be good to have each department head give a brief update on
what’s going on. For example—Brian Erickson can talk about the Public Works facility
project and the last year of the street program; Chief Harder can discuss the department’s
outreach efforts and the recent success of the Father / Daughter dance; Desaree can
address some of the generic personnel challenges in our near future; and Mark can give a
quick overview on financial conditions and budget. If anything, these brief presentations
will help further our desire to be transparent and might prompt residents to ask relevant
questions when it’s that time of the evening.

Recommendation:

Review and discuss goals and priorities for 2017, and finalize the Town Hall Meeting
agenda.

Respectfully submitted,

________________________
James Ericson
City Administrator
