He reported Officer Kirk Leitch had been assigned as the 1 <br />Department’s School Resource Officer. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Police Chief Kinney discussed the K-9 unit’s activity in the third quarter. He reported a local 4 <br />Girl Scout troop was so impressed by Officer Nick Erickson and Niko that they raised enough 5 <br />funds to purchase a vest for a Blaine K-9. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Police Chief Kinney thanked the residents of Mounds View for participating in National Night 8 <br />Out. He also appreciated the public’s involvement in the school supply drive. He then provided 9 <br />further comment on the Punt, Pass and Kick event that was sponsored by the Mounds View 10 <br />Police Department at the Edgewood Middle School. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Police Chief Kinney thanked Sergeant Wolf for putting on a gun safety training course again this 13 <br />fall. He discussed a missing person’s case in the community and thanked his officers for their 14 <br />efforts on this case. He appreciated the connection he has made with the Liberian community 15 <br />through this case. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Council Member Mueller asked how residents could make a donation to the K-9 unit. Police 18 <br />Chief Kinney suggested all donations be sent to City Hall with a notation on the check stating the 19 <br />donation was for the Police Department’s K-9 unit. 20 <br /> 21 <br />Council Member Mueller questioned what the minimum age was for individuals to participate in 22 <br />the gun safety course. Police Chief Kinney reported individuals had to be 11 years of age. 23 <br /> 24 <br />Mayor Flaherty thanked Police Chief Kinney for his report and for making an effort to 25 <br />continually engage with the community. 26 <br /> 27 <br />Finance Director Beer reminded the Council that the Truth and Taxation Meeting would be held 28 <br />on December 7, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. 29 <br /> 30 <br />City Administrator Ericson reported the City of Mounds View was nominated and received an 31 <br />award from the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce recognizing the City for its efforts in economic 32 <br />development, specifically the City’s business expansion and retention efforts. He thanked 33 <br />Business Development Coordinator Beeman for his efforts on behalf of the City. 34 <br /> 35 <br />Mayor Flaherty reminded the public that City Hall would be closed on Thursday, November 26th 36 <br />and Friday, November 27th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
