10

News from the Department 2015

The department has transitioned to a new county wide Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and
Records Management System (RMS) in March 2015. This effort has been years in the
planning, research and implementation with both systems “going live” on March 24-25, 2015.
As a review, the CAD system is a combination of the hardware, software and services the
Ramsey County Communications Center utilizes to provide dispatching and communications
service to individual cities within Ramsey County. The Records Management System (RMS)
is a program where all police reports, records and data are maintained.

This transition to the CAD system occurred through all of the agencies in Ramsey County
while the RMS change was made by the Mounds View Police Department as well as the New
Brighton Police Department, Maplewood Police Department and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s
Department. In July, a transition to electronic citations using the same RMS vendor occurred.
Officers are able to generate citations in their squad vehicles, print off the ticket to distribute
to the violator and the ticket is electronically submitted to the RMS and state court system.

In April, Officer Darrell Meyer and Officer Keith Demarest received lifesaving awards from
Allina for their roles in providing assistance on a cardiac arrest situation in Arden Hills. The
survivor was so grateful he arranged to meet many of his rescuers during a meeting at the
Allina Operations Center.

Officer Meyer, survivor- Lee Rick, and Officer Demarest
