Street Name Blades

City staff members have been
contacted a few times by residents
and past residents who’ve learned
that we will soon be replacing the old
street name blades for more
reflective versions. These residents
have inquired as to whether the
signs would be available—either for
free or for purchase—for sentimental
or nostalgia reasons. Up to this
point, staff’s position was that the old
name blades would be recycled as
scrap. Taking on the task of trying to stockpile, coordinate and sell the old blades would
seem too much effort for too little gain. Council member Gunn suggested we talk about
selling the blades if not too much trouble and using the proceeds to fund “art in the Park”
projects or some other community engagement event. While it would make most sense to
keep the blades at the public works garage, doing so would limit access and would be
inconvenient for staff. The other option would be to have a supply at City Hall in a recycle
bin on display. Does the Council have any desire to sell the blades versus recycling them?
