Chuck Whiting, City Administrator, Mayor& Council
Page 2
January 29, 1998
7. Dissemination - data, reports, materials, explaining the project.
8. Information Base - Information regarding the significance to the public environment or
community.
Another portion of the grant is for outdoor recreation facilities. Outdoor amenities to the
Community Center project would be a possible grant application. While architects have
drawn outdoor amenities on plans and there has been discussion regarding desired amenities
including basketball courts, volleyball courts, pathways, green spaces, gazebo, sitting area and
perhaps a small band shelter, these amenities are not included in the specifications and will not be
in the bids. This grant award is limited to $50,000 projects or $25,000 match.
If it is the Council's pleasure, I would be happy to prepare two grant applications, one for
acquisition and development of a wetland area for storm water management, enhancement of
nature and aesthetics and economic development. The other grant application would be for
outdoor recreation amenities for the Community Center. While I certainly cannot guarantee that
the projects will be awarded, I think that it is worth the while to submit applications in the chance
that one or both of the projects is awarded funding. Both projects fit the criteria.
City matching funds could come from a combination of selected fund including Storm Water
Management, Park Dedication Funds, Tax Increment Funding, or other funding determined by the
Council.
Staff seeks Council's direction as to whether or not to submit these suggested grant applications
for the acquisition and development of wetland area abutting Community Center and outdoor
amenities for the Community Center.
