PARK DED.
SURVEY: Director Saarion shared a survey that was conducted by Ingraham& Voss,
Inc. The survey included information from 46 cities in Minnesota, most of
which were metropolitan area cities but also included St. Cloud, Albert
Lea, Alexandria, Austin, Brainerd, Pipestone and others. Mounds View
falls within the standard Park Dedication requirements. The Commission
also reviewed the updated Park Dedication Fee Ordinance.
LCMR GRANTS: Director Saarion reported that grant applications have been solicited for
community improvement projects that affect the environment. Two grants
will be prepared, one for acquisition and development of wetland near the
Community Center and one for development of recreation facilities outside
of the Community Center. Grants will go to City Council at the February
work session for consideration.
SLIDING HILL: Director Saarion reported that two persons were injured at Silver View
Park. One woman was sliding and went over a jump and injured her back.
A 10 year old boy was snowboarding and went over a jump and fell on his
head resulting in a concussion and brain blood clot. Both accidents
involved going over jumps that children had made. Director Saarion
reported that the parks crew levels jumps on a regular basis. However
children make the jumps as quickly as they are leveled. Commissioners
discussed the issue and concluded that it is good to continue to level the
jumps when they are detected. Director Saarion will order a special sign
prohibiting the making of jumps and asking users to destroy jumps if they
see them. Reminders to slide safely will be printed on flyers and other
material when opportunities arise.
YOUTH REG.: Director Saarion requested the Commissioners to reserve Saturday, March
21 from 9:45 - 12:00 noon to help with youth athletic registration for
summer sports. Commissioners' assistance is greatly appreciated.
ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Stevenson made a motion seconded by Commissioner
Dentz to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed unanimously.
•
