Pri,strti-jd intt-b`l
March 9, 1998
Dan Coughlin
8468 Spring Lake Road
Mounds View, MN 55112-6154
DanC@isd.net
786-4001
Honorable Mayor McCarty and Councilmembers:
The following pages are presented to you to provide additional information for the
Spring Lake Road/ County Road I road reconstruction project.
Over the past 2+ business days, Duane Haakenson of Frattalone Paving Inc. has
been working on a good faith estimate of what it would cost to reconstruct our two
roads using various scenerios. Before I go on, I would like to go on the record
thanking Duane and the other estimators at Frattalone for going above and beyond
the call of duty in presenting these price quotes. Duane and his co-workers had only
a few short days to visually survey the site and work on the cost estimates for me,
yet he was gracious and professional to the end. He even came out to my house
• from his office so to deliver the final estimates in person.
In discussing this road project with Duane I asked him to estimate on the high end,
using the top quality materials (such as 100% limestone instead of recycled material
or generic gravel) for his estimate so that his figures would err on the side of
caution. Duane stated that he believes that a final bid price from Frattalone would
very likely be lower than this estimated price.
Duane stated that upon his visual survey of the road, it appeared to him that the road
base was in good condition seeing that there was very little settling to be observed.
Though core samples would need to be taken to verify this, Duane felt confident
enough that the base was indeed in good shape to also include an estimate to simply
mill down the existing road and replace it with new asphalt.
•
