Benefits of reconstructing roads to current size
and scope without curb and gutter over proposed 30' road:
- Unnecessary to relocate mailboxes, power poles, utility boxes and fire
hydrants. Thus saving time, labor and money in the process.
- Minimal loss of trees and front lawns
- Narrower roads encourage slower traffic speeds. (City of Longmont,
Colorado in association with Swift and Associates released a study
that narrower streets are safer.)
- Less maintenance costs due to smaller road (smaller cracks to seal,
less surface area to sealcoat, etc.)
- Costs less than proposed road both now and in future reconstruction
• (Future reconstructions will probably not reduce the size of the present
road; so a smaller, less-expensive road now also means spending less
of the budget on such reconstruction 30+ years from now as well)
--Isolated drainage problems could be addressed with landscape
garden amenities and/or special grading instead of expensive curb,
gutter and storm sewer projects.
- It is what a majority of residents want
- Reconstruction can possibly be done yet this year.
