Sgrin
LakPark
lame
ounds View
FIRE DEPARTMENT •
HEADQ DARTERS
May 7, 1996
Mr. Chuck Whiting
Mounds View City Hall
2401 Highway 10
Mounds View, MN 55112
Dear Chuck:
I have had a chance to do some more follow up on the inspection program and would like you to
consider the following options. I will give you a call in a couple of weeks to discuss this further.
The current arrangement is a result of a verbal agreement between Don Poss, Samantha Orduno,
and Ron Fagerstrom. Presently. Blaine Fire Marshal Katherine Gove and Blaine Deputy Fire
Marshal Brad Matti perform reactive functions on a fee basis. The vast majority of their work
involves following up on any commercial, industrial, or high occupancy (apartments) calls of any
type, performing plan review, and monitoring sprinkler systems. Total charges last year were
$2,521.66. First quarter charges this year are $908.71.
The goal is twofold, one is a strong inspection program as a vehicle or means
by which we continue
to operate a volunteer fire department at substantial cost savings to the residents and the other is too
maintain public safety for both our personnel and the citizens of the community. Blaine has
approved the hiring of a code enforcement person which will free up Katherine and Brads time to
focus on fire inspections. Additionally, one of the following options will free them up for more time
in Blaine. In 9 years we have not been through every business in that community.
Spring Lake Park has hired Clark Kube as a combination building and fire official.
Option A
Hire a full time combination Building and Fire Official as a means to address our mutual problems
and address the Cities concern regarding maintenance of housing stock. Cost with benefits would
be approximately $45k. Experienced Fire Marshals gross pay is $44k. Clark is paid close to $30k.
•
1710 Highway 10 Spring Lake Park.MN 55432 Phone: 612-786-4436 Fax: 612-786-9617 Emergency: 9 1 1
