•
Option B
Hire a part time Fire Inspector either as an employee or on a contract basis. I am enclosing a
Resume from Mark Bishop who was the Fire Marshal at New Brighton and now contracts his
services for$35 per hour. We could probably interest a volunteer to perform 20 to 30 hours per
week at $15 per hour, especially if a potential for full time employment were to occur.
Option C
Use a combination of Contract Labor and volunteer help. Let Mr. Bishop who is experienced,
perform plan review, sprinkler system review and testing, and alarm system follow up. Have him
work with, train, and supervise a part time or volunteer member to do inspections of structures
starting with light commercial, high occupancy, etc.
Summary;
As you can see from Mr. Bishops quote after deducting fire cause fees (we have our own
investigation team) the total cost would be about $10,000 per year plus administrative support and
secretarial fees. At the very least he could replace what Katherine and Brad are doing at the same
cost of about $3,000 per year.
• Another incentive for the city is to reduce the number of calls received as the budget formula is
based upon market value and the average number of calls over a three year period.
Should we conclude that hiring of Mr. Bishop is warranted we will have to discuss who he will
contract with and report to. The fire code places final enforcement of the code with the fire chief.
Sincerely,
9(.11
Nyle Zikmund
Fire Chief
0
