The second plan shows the community center at full programmed areas. Included in this option are
areas for the following: Teen Activities/Lounge; Seniors; Community Education; Children's
Education; Classrooms; Dance Floor; CHS Daycare; Volleyball Courts; Gymnasium.
The following items are related to the development of this plan:
- The addition of a four(4) court Volleyball building with support spaces
- The addition of a multi purpose Gymnasium
- The relocation of the Teen Activity/Lounge areas to the new building
-Expansion of the existing parking lot
- The relocation of the CHS Daycare and the children's educational areas. This cost should
be very minimal, since these spaces were designed to be interchangeable in the previous
option.
- The addition of a new main entry and drop off area to the facility.
The work completed in the first phase serves as the basis for the following phase. The final phase
allows the project to grow to its full development. With respect to the plans and placement of areas
the following should be noted:
- The relocation of the Teen Center allows for a centralized activity area, adjacent to other
410
activity areas.
-The relocation of the Daycare allows for a private area away from the major activity areas.
- The relocation of the Educational areas allows for these areas to be adjacent to the major
entrances and direct access to the users and neighborhood residents.
- The dance floor area is increased with the relocation of the teen center.
After the plan options were presented, a discussion was held regarding the requirements and concerns
of CHS. The following items should be noted:
- The daycare should be located in the corner of the building (as indicated in plan option 2)
at this time to eliminate any associated moving and relocation costs in the future.
-Restrooms should be added to the classrooms for student comfort and security, eliminating
any interaction with outsiders at a public restroom.
-Area required for each student shall be 35 square feet minimum. Additional area would be
preferred, approximately 45 square feet per student.
- The daycare needs to be operational by June 1, 1997. Completion of construction should
be approximately May 15, 1997. Estimated construction timeframe is approximately three
(3) months. All decisions, planning and construction drawings need to be completed by
February, 1997.
- The daycare will be sized for approximately 90-100 students.
- The daycare will need to have a fire sprinkler installed. Sprinidering of the entire building
is requested by the City. Verification of water service to the facility will be required.
Installation of the sprinkler may be done in phases, depending on construction sequencing.
Consulting engineers for the city is SEH, 490-2000. Point of contact at the city is Jim Hess.
