<br /> <br />RESOLUTION 8625 <br /> <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />APPROVING THE EXTENSION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES 2012- <br />2104 COMMUNITY FOREST BONDING GRANT AND THE APPROVAL OF <br />ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR REPLACEMENT TREE PLANTING <br /> <br />WHEREAS, City was awarded a Forestry Grant from the Minnesota Department of <br />Natural Resources (DNR) on May 14, 2012 for removal of ash trees from municipal property <br />(parks, grounds, and boulevards) to assist in ; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Staff requested an extension on the grant from the DNR until November 30, <br />2016; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The grant includes $15,000.00 for a one to one replanting of the trees that <br />have been removed; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Staff has received two quotes for tree replacements. The quotes include the <br />purchase of the trees, planting, mulching and a one year warranty: <br />• Midwest Landscapes, Ostego, MN for $24,995.00 <br />• Rum River Tree Farm and Nursery, Ramsey, MN for $21,428.00; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, A cost shortage of $6,428.00 has occurred in order to remove the ash trees <br />and to replant with a one to one tree replacement; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The 2016 Adopted Budget in the Forestry Division account 100-4380-3030 is <br />budgeted $15,000 for Forestry Consulting; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Rum River Tree Farm and Nursery from Ramsey, MN was the low quote for <br />$21,428.00. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mounds View City Council does hereby <br />approve the quote form Rum River Tree Farm and Nursery of Ramsey MN for a total of <br />$21,428.00. Acting now will help to slow the infestations and the spread of Emerald Ash Borer <br />(EAB), thereby lessening and stretching the workload curve over more time in combating EAB. <br />Also the City Council approves the utilization of $6,428.00 in the 2016 adopted budget, Forestry <br />Division account 100-4380-3030, for the shortage to replant the removed ash trees, on a one to <br />one basis. <br /> <br />Adopted this 12th day of September, 2016 <br /> <br /> <br /> ________________________________ <br /> Joe Flaherty, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br /> _________________________________ <br /> James Ericson, City Administrator <br /> <br />(SEAL)
