<br />Item No: 08C <br />Meeting Date: December 12, 2016 <br />Type of Business: CA <br />Administrator Review : ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nate Harder, Police Chief <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8677, a Resolution Approving the “Use of Body <br />Worn Cameras Policy.” <br /> <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />Staff has reviewed the draft Body Worn Camera policy and data retention schedule with <br />the City Council during the reports portion of the November 28, 2016 City Council <br />meeting, as well as revisiting the topic at the December 5, 2016 City Council meeting. <br />The Council has been supportive of both the policy and purchase of equipment. <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />Staff has prepared a Body Worn Camera (BWC) policy pursuant to State law, using the <br />League of MN Cities model policy as the basis. The Policy has been posted to social <br />media as well as the Police Department website, soliciting feedback via a “Survey <br />Monkey” link, the results of which have been discussed in previous City Council <br />meetings. The City has solicited additional citizen feedback by advertising in the local <br />paper to attend Council meetings to provide feedback. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends approval or Resolution 8677, a resolution approving the “Use of <br />Body Worn Cameras” policy and adoption of the associated data retention schedule. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />Nate Harder <br />Chief of Police <br /> <br />
