Mounds View City Council November 28, 2016 <br />Regular Meeting Page 10 <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty asked how staff would be trained to use the body cameras. Police Chief Harder 1 <br />explained Watch Guard would provide training for Mounds View Police Officers. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Mayor Flaherty inquired when the body cameras would be implemented. Police Chief Harder 4 <br />reported the body cameras would be implemented January or February of 2017. 5 <br /> 6 <br />Mayor Flaherty questioned how durable the cameras were. Police Chief Harder indicated these 7 <br />cameras were very durable and would last. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Council Member Gunn thanked Police Chief Harder for his thorough report. She asked what 10 <br />supervisors would be randomly reviewing the information. Police Chief Harder stated this would 11 <br />be conducted by any or all supervisors within the department, along with himself. 12 <br /> 13 <br />Council Member Mueller inquired if the estimate was for four or eight body cameras. Police 14 <br />Chief Harder clarified the estimate was for eight body cameras. He believed that eight cameras 15 <br />would be a sufficient number to keep the department properly covered. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Mayor Flaherty supported the purchase and implementation of body cameras for the Mounds 18 <br />View Police Department. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Council Member Meehlhause recommended that the Police Department consider purchasing 10 21 <br />body cameras. Police Chief Harder discussed the amount of funds available for body cameras for 22 <br />2016 and 2017. He then reviewed the data retention expense noting the Mounds View would be 23 <br />collaborating with the Roseville IT department. 24 <br /> 25 <br />City Administrator Ericson stated if the Council would like to discuss this matter in more detail 26 <br />this item could be placed on an upcoming worksession agenda, otherwise a Resolution will be 27 <br />brought forward on December 12th. 28 <br /> 29 <br />Council Member Gunn supported a Resolution being approved on December 12th with a short 30 <br />discussion being held at the December 5th worksession meeting. 31 <br /> 32 <br />2. City Administrator Report 33 <br /> 34 <br />City Administrator Ericson indicated the City of Mounds View was awarded a Political 35 <br />Leadership Leaders in Local Government Award from the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce 36 <br />for the City’s business retention and expansion efforts. He commended Brian Beeman on his 37 <br />efforts on behalf of the City of Mounds View. It was noted this was the second year the City had 38 <br />received this award. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Mayor Flaherty thanked Brian Beeman for his dedicated service to the City of Mounds View. 41 <br /> 42 <br />City Administrator Ericson discussed the City Council meeting start times and requested the 43 <br />Council consider a 6:00 p.m. start time. He stated if the Council was supportive, the new start 44 <br />time could take effect in January 2017. 45
