Item No: 7B Meeting Date: April 27, 2015 Type of Business: CB Administrator Review: ____ City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8402, Approving the Hire of Brian Erickson to the Public Works Director Position Background: Public Works Director Nick DeBar has resigned from his position effective December 19, 2014. On December 8, 2014, the City Council approved Resolution 8341, approving the job description, and authorized Staff to advertise for the Public Works Director position. The City advertised for the position twice, and received thirteen (13) applications. Discussion: Staff advertised the opening on the City’s website, Star Tribune, government jobs.com, American Public Works Association (APWA), local chapter of Professional Engineers, and the League of Minnesota Cities website. Staff interviewed five (5) qualified candidates. Second interviews were then conducted on the top candidate, Brian Erickson. It was the consensus of Staff to recommend Brian Erickson to the position of Public Works Director. Mr. Erickson has a Bachelors degree in Engineering Science. He also has a Masters Degree in Structural Engineering and is a registered Minnesota Professional Engineer. Mr. Erickson, if hired, would start at Step 2 of the Pay Scale at $44.88/hour; with an increase to Step 3 of the salary range (currently $47.52/hour) after one year of employment. All increases are subject to a satisfactory performance evaluation. All other City benefits and personnel policies will apply as stated in the Mounds View Personnel Manual. References and background checks are complete and satisfactory. Mr. Erickson would begin employment on or about June 1, 2015. This is a full-time, non-union, exempt position. Brian Erickson will be attending this City Council meeting to introduce himself, and answer any questions that the City Council may have.
