5 School Resource Officer (SRO) The SRO performs various duties on a daily basis at Edgewood Middle School which include the following: • assisting with traffic flow in front of the school, • ensuring the school is secured each morning, • providing a police presence in the hallways during passing times and in the cafeteria during lunch times, • investigating crimes that occur on school property, • assisting patrol by performing follow-up on cases that involve students or school property • assisting with lock down, fire, and severe weather drills, • serving as a member of the school crisis team, • providing police support to school dances and after school activities, • assisting at Pinewood Elementary/The Bridges as needed, • being a liaison between the school and the police department, • forming positive relationships with students, Some additional services the SRO provided at the school this quarter included: • Maintaining the school radio communications system • Deescalating out of control students • Communicating with juvenile probation officers • Operation of the school surveillance system • Locating truant/missing students • Locating and recovering stolen bikes, electronics, and other property In the second quarter, the SRO assisted with the following notable incidents (seven total incident reports generated: • 6 theft reports • 2 theft arrests • 1 medical assist • 2 criminal damage to property reports • 6 lost/recovered property reports • 27 disorderly conduct/disruptive student incidents • 4 disorderly conduct arrests • 2 obstructing a police officer arrests • 1 gross misdemeanor stalking arrest • 2 assault reports • 1 assault arrest • 4 harassment/reports • 2 truancy incident • 8 student transports • 1 domestic assault report • **Seven juveniles were arrested during the second quarter, and there were two referrals to the diversion program.**
