)I } Item No: 07B <br />i — Meeting Date: February 24 2014 <br />Type of Business: Business <br />City of Mounds New Staff Re ort <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8214 Accepting a Donation from Bethlehem <br />Baptist Church in the Amount of $18,285 and Authorizing <br />Distribution of Funds <br />Introduction: <br />Bethlehem Baptist Church purchased the building located at 5151 Program Avenue in <br />2004 and received City zoning approval to renovate the former office /warehouse space <br />for church usage. At the same time, the Church expressed its desire to sponsor and <br />support worthy community endeavors and created the "Mounds View Service Project Fund" <br />pledging annual donations totaling $25,000. They envisioned the fund to be used to help <br />meet certain community needs jointly identified by the city and the Church that would be "in <br />harmony" with their mission and values. <br />Discussion: <br />Representatives from the City, the Community Center and the Park & Rec Commission <br />have discussed potential funding opportunities for the second half 2013 service project <br />fund donation which totaled $18,285. A number of programs and improvements which had <br />been reviewed by the representative were highlighted for Bethlehem's consideration. The <br />Church's Pastor for Outreach, Vince Johnson, responded with a letter dated February 7, <br />2014, recommending the following disbursement schedule: <br />® Safe Afterschool Programs for Youth $2,000 <br />® Music in the Park $1,000 <br />® Y -Partners $2,000 <br />MV Community Resource Center $3,000 <br />Economic Development & Marketing $2,500 <br />2 AED replacements in squad cars $3,200 <br />2 Mobile Dental Clinics $1,300 <br />® Sr. Wellness Program $1,500 <br />Reroof Shelter at Hillview Park $1,785 <br />The Council may have questions about specific line items within this list; for those that <br />aren't as self-explanatory, I have attached additional information. <br />Safe Afterschool Programs for Youth <br />This was requested by the MVCCNMCA. Also referred to as the Teen Leaders Club, funds <br />f would be used to provide a safe after school environment for youth in the Mounds View Area. <br />We have seen a great growth in this program, both in the youth participating and in impact on <br />the community. In 2014 we are looking to increase this program's impact and number of youth <br />served. <br />
