5 <br /> <br />• assisting with lock down, fire, and severe weather drills, <br />• serving as a member of the school crisis team, <br />• assisting at Pinewood Elementary as needed, <br />• being a liaison between the school and the police department, <br />• forming positive relationships with students, <br /> <br />From April through June, the SRO made the following incident reports: <br />• 1 possession of nicotine product (e-cig) report <br />• 1 possession of drug paraphernalia report <br />• 1 child abuse report <br />• 3 harassment reports <br />• 1 assault report <br />• 2 disorderly conduct reports <br />• 1 theft report <br />• 1 assist to other agency report <br />• 1 missing person report <br /> <br /> <br />From those cases, 1 juvenile was cited, 1 juvenile was petitioned, 1 juvenile was sent to the <br />Northeast Youth and Family Services Diversion Program, and 1 adult was arrested. <br /> <br />Some of the day to day issues that the SRO assisted the school with during the second <br />quarter included: <br />• meeting with students who have excessive absences/tardies to work on a solution <br />• assisting school admin with using the school surveillance cameras to investigate <br />incidents of theft, bullying, and truancy <br />• escorting students who were refusing to comply with school administrators orders <br />• providing police presence at school events including the final school dance at the <br />Mounds View Community Center and Edgewood Parent Communication Nights <br />• mediating between students having conflict <br />• delivering weekend snack packs to students in need <br />• assisting prosecutors, investigators, and outside agencies who were handling <br />incidents involving Edgewood students <br /> <br />Highlights from 2nd Quarter <br />• Edgewood held a disaster fair for students where students were able to learn about <br />disaster response from firefighters, paramedics, police, and Red Cross workers. The <br />SRO hosted a station where students were given the opportunity to respond to a mock <br />tornado disaster scene. Students were coached through assessing the scene for <br />hazards and then problem solved with the SRO about possible responses for each <br />hazard. <br />• Officer Erickson and K-9 did the spring demonstration for the “Dogs with Jobs” class <br />and Officer Knitter donned the bite-suit. <br />• The SRO assisted classes on their “celebration day” by providing traffic control for <br />students walking to the Mermaid Bowling Alley and Wynnsong Movie Theater. <br /> <br />The end of the school year at Edgewood Middle School marked the end of Officer Ben <br />Knitter’s time at Edgewood School as the SRO. Officer Knitter has since returned to full time
