Res. 8328 Approving Non-Standard Street Design and Parking Restrictions for Ardan Avenue in Area H
Page 2
A typical section showing existing and proposed improvements is attached to this report. Last
year, the Council approved a typical section that included a 32-foot wide (curb face to curb face)
street design for Ardan Avenue between Red Oak Drive and Long Lake Road (Res.8168). The
typical street section includes two 11-foot drive lanes, a 2-foot wide reaction zone on the north
(westbound) side, and an 8-foot wide parallel parking lane on the south (eastbound) side. The
Council also later approved a 6-foot wide concrete sidewalk in the north boulevard adjacent to the
back of curb (Res. 8219). This typical section essentially replaces a parking lane on the north
(westbound) side with a sidewalk. Metro Transit has bus stops at every intersection and the
parking lane on the south (eastbound) side can be used as a shared-use lane due to light parking
utilization.

Proposed parking at Groveland Park will be discussed at a later date when the plans and
specifications are approved.

Recommendation:
Engineering staff and the Streets and Utilities Committee recommend that the City Council adopt
the attached resolution approving a 32-foot wide (curb face to curb face) street design for Ardan
Avenue between Red Oak Drive and Long Lake Road. The typical street section includes two 11-
foot drive lanes, a 2-foot wide reaction zone on the north (westbound) side, and an 8-foot wide
parallel parking lane on the south (eastbound) side. A 6-foot concrete sidewalk is also included in
the typical section adjacent to the north (westbound) back of curb.

Respectfully submitted,

Nick DeBar - Public Works Director
