Mounds View City Council May 13, 2013 Regular Meeting Page 6 D. 7:15 p.m. Public Hearing, Resolution 8091, Consideration of a Conditional 1 Use Permit for Northwood Industries to have Outdoor Sales & Displays at 2 2701 County Road 10. 3 4 Planning Associate Heller stated that Northwood Industries was requesting approval of a 5 conditional use permit for outdoor sales and displays for the property located at 2701 County 6 Road 10. She explained that Northwood Industries was based in Hayward, Wisconsin and 7 manufactures and sells lawn furniture, gazebos, accessory buil dings, and small cabins. 8 9 Planning Associate Heller commented the applicant is looking to open a store in the Twin Cities 10 metro area and was proposing to use an asphalt area on the southeast side of the parking lot for 11 outdoor sales to display gazebos and sheds. It was noted the property is zoned B-3, Highway 12 Business, and City Code allows for 30% of the building square footage to be used for outdoor 13 sales as a conditional use in the B-3 District. Staff further reviewed the site with the Council. 14 She explained the Planning Commission reviewed this item at their May 1st meeting and 15 recommended approv al of the conditional use permit with six conditions. 16 17 Mayor Flaherty opened the public hearing at 7:45 p.m. 18 19 Clare Martin, Northwood Industries, indicated he looked forward to opening a storefront in the 20 Twin Cities metro areas this would greatly benefit his business and customers in the area. 21 22 Council Member Mueller asked if there would be storage near the trash receptacle. He noted the 23 original intent was to place the storage near the trash receptacle, but has been moved to the 24 southeast side of the parking lot. 25 26 Mayor Flaherty questioned if any delivery trucks would be stored onsite. Mr. Martin commented 27 company vehicles would not be stored on the lot overnight, but would be onsite for deliveries. 28 29 Mayor Flaherty inquired how the façade of the building would be improved. Mr. Martin 30 indicated he planned to paint the outside of the building in the first year and after that time, 31 awnings may be added. 32 33 Hearing no further public input, Mayor Flaherty closed the public hearing at 7:50 p.m. 34 35 MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Meehlhause. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8091, 36 Consideration of a Conditional Use Permit for Northwood Industries to have Outdoor Sales & 37 Displays at 2701 County Road 10. 38 39 Council Member Mueller was thrilled to see this new company moving to the City of Mounds 40 View and the benefits it would bring to the community. 41 42 Council Member Meehlhause welcomed Northwood Industries to Mounds View. 43 44 Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 45
