Mounds View City Council May 13, 2013 <br />Regular Meeting Page 14 <br /> <br />school resource officer were discussed in detail as the safety of schools has become a growing 1 <br />concern. The Towards Zero Deaths saturation events continue to have a great deal of traffic 2 <br />stops, which increases roadway safety. He explained the K-9 officer continues to greatly benefit 3 <br />the City’s Police Department. 4 <br /> 5 <br />Police Chief Kinney noted the changes in personnel within the department. He wished Bob 6 <br />Nelson well in his retirement and welcomed the three new officers to the department. He 7 <br />explained Officer Darrell Myer received a life saving award from the City of New Brighton for 8 <br />assisting in saving the life of a young women earlier this spring. 9 <br /> 10 <br />Council Member Mueller asked how the City contributed to the new officers’ uniforms and 11 <br />equipment. Police Chief Kinney commented the uniforms and utility belt equipment were City 12 <br />issued. He indicated this includes their firearm and vest. He noted the vests were typically 13 <br />replaced every five years through grants and State funds. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Mayor Flaherty thanked Police Chief Kinney for his report this evening and commended the 16 <br />department on their great work. 17 <br /> 18 <br />C.
