5 <br /> <br />Crime Prevention/DARE <br /> <br />Winter was another busy quarter for the Crime Prevention Unit. Officer Keckeisen continued <br />to teach the DARE program to over 100 5th graders at Pinewood Elementary School. <br /> <br />Officer Keckeisen attended alcohol server awareness training hosted by the Minnesota <br />Alcohol & Gambling Enforcement. Officer Keckeisen can now instruct servers on how to <br />prevent serving underage or intoxicated customers. <br /> <br />Officer Keckeisen conducted a neighborhood watch meeting with the citizens of the 7900 <br />block of Eastwood Road, recognizing them as an official neighborhood watch group. <br /> <br />Continual monitoring of the monthly alarm reports occurs to determine crime patterns and to <br />assign fines for repeating false alarms. <br /> <br />Quarterly Predatory Offender checks continued this quarter. Officer Keckeisen contacted <br />several offenders to confirm that their registration information is current and correct, and to <br />provide recent photos to the B.C.A. <br /> <br />Officer Keckeisen attended the monthly property manager’s coalition meetings this quarter, <br />along with meeting property managers on a weekly basis to discuss reports of crimes that <br />happened on their property and to develop proactive strategies to deter future criminal <br />activity. <br /> <br />Officer Keckeisen continues to serve as our department representative on the Ramsey <br />County Sheriff’s SWAT Team. He is also instrumental in preparing and delivering lesson <br />plans to all the officers in use of force, firearms proficiency and defensive tactics. <br /> <br /> <br />School Resource Officer (SRO) <br /> <br />The SRO performs various duties on a daily basis at Edgewood Middle School which include <br />the following: <br />• Assisting with traffic flow in front of the school and ensuring security <br />• Providing a police presence in the hallways <br />• Investigating crimes that occur on school property <br />• Assisting with lock down and fire drills <br />• Attending school dances and after school activities <br />• Assisting Pinewood Elementary with service requests <br />• The SRO also serves on the Building Operations Committee and the Positive Behavior <br />Interventions and Strategies Committee. <br /> <br />From January to March, the SRO made the following incident reports: 3 assists to other <br />agencies, 1 medical assist, 2 follow up investigations, 1 child abuse, and 1 assault. No <br />students were petitioned or sent to diversion by the SRO in the first three months of 2012. <br /> <br />The SRO assisted the school and handled a variety of problems during the first quarter.
