This would include the cities of Arden Hills, Blaine, Falcon Heights, <br />Gem Lake, Lauderdale, Little Canada, Maplewood, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Oaks, <br />North St. Paul, Roseville, Shoreview, St. Anthony, St. Paul, Spring Lake Park, Vadnais Heights, and <br />White Bear Lake. <br /> <br />Responsible Organization Individual cities, Ramsey County Emergency Management and Homeland <br />Security, and local law enforcement <br />Coordinating Organization Ramsey County Emergency Management and Homeland Security <br />Time Line 2012–2013 <br />Funding Sources Individual Cities General Funds and County General Funds, FEMA grants <br />Multijurisdictional Considerations. Tornadoes can affected all areas of Ramsey County. All of the <br />cities and townships in Ramsey County should be participants in tornado mitigation activities. <br />Public Information and Awareness Strategies. The Ramsey County Hazard Mitigation Steering <br />Committee has identified many public awareness campaigns to ensure that the citizens of Ramsey County <br />have advanced warning of the hazards affecting them and the about the mitigation efforts in place to <br />mitigate potential tornado situations. <br />5.2.3 Severe Summer Storms <br />Mitigation Goals. Thunderstorm winds and lightning has caused numerous injuries and deaths as well as <br />millions of dollars in property damage in Ramsey County over the past 45 years. There is a great need to <br />reduce the risk to lives and property due to this hazard. There are many similarities for mitigating <br />thunderstorm winds and tornadoes. This section identifies mitigation solutions to lightning events and <br />severe thunderstorms. <br />Range of Mitigation Options. Possible mitigation options for severe storms include early warning <br />devices and property protection systems. The early warning devices should allow residents to take shelter <br />before the storm approaches. <br />Mitigation Strategy for Thunderstorm Wind and Lightning: <br /> Mitigation Goal #1 - To minimize the loss of life and property due to thunderstorm winds and <br />lightning in Ramsey County. <br /> Objective #1 - To adequately warn and protect the people and property from the effects of <br />thunderstorm winds and lightning of Ramsey County. <br />Action Steps: <br /> Equip all county and city recreation parks, fair grounds, as well as outdoor venue areas with <br />adequate early severe weather warning devices and lightning detection devices.
