6

Crime Prevention/DARE

Officer Keckeisen hosted a very successful DARE graduation for over 100 5th graders from
Pinewood Elementary School.

Participation in the annual Mounds View Town Hall Meeting occurred, presenting information
on all of the quality policing programs provided by the Mounds View Police Department

Alcohol compliance checks were completed this quarter. We are pleased to report that all of
the businesses licensed to sell alcohol in Mounds View passed the compliance check.

Quarterly Predatory Offender checks continued this quarter.

Officer Keckeisen attended the monthly property manager’s coalition meetings this quarter,
along with meeting property managers on a weekly basis to discuss reports of crimes that
happened on their property and to develop proactive strategies to deter future criminal
activity.

Officer Keckeisen conducted training sessions for the officers in defensive tactics and taser
refresher training.

Finally, the weekly crime summary continues to be distributed which contains helpful crime
prevention tips. Crime mapping allows citizens to get a visual representation of exactly
where crime is happening in Mounds View.

Toward Zero Deaths (TZD)

The May seatbelt saturation resulted in 54 drivers and passengers who neglected to wear
their seatbelts. Our current seat belt compliance rate, (taken by an unscientific poll) is
approximately 93%.

During this quarter our officers also participated in seven events. Five of these events were
county wide DWI saturations in the cities of St Anthony, St Paul, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights
& White Bear Lake. During these events, fifty-five people were arrested for DWI and ninety-
five for driving without a valid license.

The last event of the quarter was an “On-Duty” saturation held on June 30, 2012 in which Sgt
Zender’s officers made one DWI and five driving after revocation arrests.

The following charts highlight some of the results by Mounds View officers during the
scheduled saturations.
