RESOLUTION 8032 <br /> <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />APPROVING ADDITIONAL EXPENDITURES FOR REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS TO <br />THE GYMNASIUM FLOOR AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a drinking fountain located in the Community Center gymnasium sprang <br />a leak on November 2-3, 2012 and damaged about 600 square feet of hardwood floor; and <br />WHEREAS, the damaged floor is not useable and needs to be repaired to prevent <br />potential injuries to those using the gym; and <br />WHEREAS, the repair involves removing and replacing underlying layers of plywood <br />and hardwood planks, sanding the damaged area, applying two coats of sealer, and <br />reapplying any removed game lines; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council approved repairs to the damaged floor not to exceed <br />$12,000 on November 26, 2012 (Res. 8028), and Public Works solicited competitive quotes <br />from qualified contractors and hired Twin Cities Hardwood Flooring to make the repairs and <br />improvements to the flooring for $10,090; and <br />WHEREAS, additional water damage was discovered during the floor repair to the <br />extent of which is unknown, and unit price compensation was provided by Twin City <br />Hardwood Flooring to provide additional tear-out of damaged floor ($65 and $35 per hour <br />for journey man and apprentice, respectively), full restoration of floor ($7.75 per square <br />foot), and sanding/coating of salvaged floor ($1.30 per square foot). <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mounds <br />View, Ramsey County, Minnesota as follows: <br />1. The above unit price compensation submitted by Twin City Hardwood Flooring for <br />additional work to repair and improve the damaged gymnasium floor at the Community <br />Center is hereby approved. <br />2. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed, for and on behalf of the <br />City, to track and monitor the additional expenditure amounts and make determination of <br />work scope required to restore the gymnasium floor from the water damage. <br />3.
