Item No: 7D Meeting Date: March 14, 2011 Type of Business: CB City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: James Ericson, City Administrator Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7755 Approving the 2011 City Council Priorities Introduction: On February 15, 2011, the Mounds View City Council held a retreat at Random Park with the department heads to discuss, among other things, goals and priorities for 2011. Discussion: At the retreat, the Council began its goal setting session by reviewing the City’s mission, vision and Values statements. The Mission Statement describes the organization's overall purpose and reason for existing: OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY PUBLIC SERVICES THAT EFFECTIVELY ADDRESSES CHANGING CITIZEN AND COMMUNITY NEEDS IN A FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE AND CUSTOMER- FRIENDLY MANNER. The Vision Statement is a mental image of a possible and desirable future state of the organization. WE SEE MOUNDS VIEW AS A PROACTIVE COMMUNITY THAT TAKES PRIDE IN ITS ACHIEVEMENTS. WE ARE RESPONSIVE TO THE CHANGING NEEDS AND INTERESTS OF OUR RESIDENTS AND OUR BUSINESSES. AS A RESULT, OUR COMMUNITY THRIVES AND PROSPERS The Values Statement reflects the spirit of the city and defines the core values that guide the day-to-day activities of city personnel. The following values are fundamental to the City’s success and the fulfillment of its mission: 1. Excellence and Quality in the Delivery of Services We believe that service to the public is our reason for being and strive to deliver quality services in a highly-professional and cost-effective manner. 2. Fiscal Responsibility We believe that fiscal responsibility and prudent stewardship of public funds essential for citizen confidence in government.
