Benefits:
Eliminates the Pond i(
Lost storage volume remains on site
Non-Benefits
Expensive
Higher maintenance since sump manholes would need to be cleaned annually.
Hard to clean system in the future if it fills with sediment.
Option 6. Bury storage including no retention storage with sumps
Remove existing storm sewer and raise the storm sewer which eliminates the need for sump
manholes.
Excavate the existing pond to native material.
Replace the lost pond volume using large CMP culverts which allows the pond to be
completely filled.
With this option the existing ponding is eliminated by using Corrugated Metal Culverts (CMP).
Enough CMP's are buried in the pond location to compensate for the lost storage. This will allow
the site to be filled to near the elevation of the existing land. Some of the CMP should be
perforated to take advantage of the natural infiltration of the soils. This eliminates the need for
sump manholes by raising the storm sewers so the discharge elevation is above the invert of the
outlet pipe in the highway ditch(904:58). For the most part the water quality function of the pond
would be lost which may require a new pond offsite.
Project Cost. $233,000 •
Benefits:
Eliminates the Pond
Lost storage volume remains on site
No sump manhole maintenance
Non-Benefits
Expensive
Hard to clean system in the future if it fills with sediment.
Option 7. New storm sewer
Remove existing storm sewer and raise the storm sewer which allows the storm sewer to be
jacked under Long Lake Road without disturbing existing utilities.
Extend the existing south storm sewer to near the east entrance to the shopping center.
Fill the existing pond l
With this option the entire storm sewer is replaced and rerouted to a pond located in the northeast
corner of Bronson Drive and Long Lake Road(Area EW-5 in the Local Water Management Plan).
Due to utility conflicts in Long Lake Road, the existing storm sewer system would need to be
raised. The option will eliminate the existing pond. This option does require offsite pond
excavation to mitigate for the increase in water volume sent to the pond on the east side of Long
Lake Road. The pond currently has a home which has little or no freeboard next to it. Lost water
quality benefits would be mitigated in the pond.
•
4
