• INTER
OFFICEMEMO
To: Chuck Whiting, City Clerk-Administrator
From: Joyce Pruitt
Subject: Foster care facility at 2935 Highway 10 •
Date: May 15, 1996
*** FOR FILE***
As you requested, this memorandum has been prepared regarding the status of the foster care
facility at 2935 Highway 10. Julie Snyder of the Minnesota DOC Inspection Unit and Juvenile
Services contacted the City on May 08, 1996 to request the placement of one additional young .
woman at the foster care facility at 2935 Highway 10.
Up to this point, the Waldoch's had been operating a foster care facility at the property and only
• permitting six foster children at the home. The State of Minnesota permits six or fewer foster
children in residential districts without municipal regulation.
Ms. Snyder made the request to add another foster child following a City Council worksession
discussion to revise the foster care ordinance. The City Council expressed support for changing
the Mounds View foster care ordinance to allow up to eight foster children in residential districts.
Although this new ordinance has not been formally adopted as of yet, I believe it is the Council's
intention to allow up to eight children at a foster care facility.
The additional child is a female under eighteen years of age who still requires education on family
living skills, which Ms. Snyder feels the Waldoch's can provide.
On May 08, 1996, Ms. Snyder was notified that it would be acceptable to allow this one
additional child into the foster care for the 8265 Spring Lake Road facility, prior to the formal
adoption of the amended foster care code.
III
