i
I `
Item No. I4-
Staff Report No. (17- 1 w9, 0)5
Meeting Date: March 3, 1997
• Type of Business: WK
WK: Work Session;PH:Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda;CB: Council Business
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and members of the City Council
From: Bruce Kessel, Finance Director
Item Title/Subject: Proposed revision to City Code relating to probationary periods
(requested by Councilor Koopmeiners)
Date of Report: February 28, 1997
Section 304 of the City Code relates to probationary periods (see attached).
It has been proposed by Councilor Koopmeiners that said section be modified by adding the
following:
304.04 Subd. 4. Cost of living adjustments will not be paid during a probationary period
of an employee, nor within six months of an employee's last salary increase.
It is my understanding that the intent of this proposal is that once an employee had completed
• their probationary period and six months elapsed since their last salary increase, the cost of living
adjustment would then be granted. The employee would then be paid according to the standard
salary schedule and would receive all other cost of living adjustments and step adjustments in the
manner they are granted to all other employees.
If the Council is receptive to this proposal, it is my understanding that an Ordinance would need
to be drafted to incorporate this change into the City Code.
•
