Without the revised traffic assignments for this intersection and
Driveways D and E, however, SEH was not aware of how operations might occur at
these locations.
The minimum stacking distance for northbound vehicles is 225 feet, and the distance
between the Highway 10/Silver Lake Road intersection and Driveway D is only 170 feet.
Driveway E, which serves the same uses as Driveway D, is 160 feet south of Driveway
• D. This combined distance provides 330 feet for northbound vehicle stacking, and if
Driveway D is blocked by stacked, northbound vehicles, access to the site can take place
at Driveway E.
According to the Highway Capacity Manual, the stacking distance for an unsignalized
intersection, such as Driveway D, should accommodate the.average number of vehicles
expected to use the lane in a two minute period. As shown in Table 2, 58 southbound
left-turns are expected to occur at Driveway D during the PM peak hour. According to
this criterion, and providing 25 feet of stacking distance for each vehicle, a minimum of
50 feet will be needed for queued vehicles. As stated 170 feet is available between the
Highway 10/Silver Lake Road intersection and Driveway D.
1110
