d Item No. I/ r
P
Staff Report No. fir /
Meeting Date: June 23, 1997
• Type of Business: CB
WK: Work Session;PH:Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB:City Business
City of Mounds View
Staff Report
To: Mayor/ Council Members
From: Cathy Bennett, Director of Economic Development
Item Title/Subject: Consideration of Resolution Approving Project
Management Services Agreement with WAI Continuum
for the Development of the Community Center
Date of Report: June 18, 1997
As the Phase I Community Center Project is proceeding, it has quickly become very
apparent that the details concerning the project are cumbersome and time consuming
yet very important to its overall success.
At the suggestion of attorney Bob Long, Chuck asked WAI Continuum to draft an
40 agreement for Project Management Services. WAI Continuum has years of expertise
in representing owners on projects such as the City Community Center. They are
very familiar with the problems that arise and how to quickly and efficiently deal
with them to ensure that timeline and project scopes are met. WAI is proposing to
work on an hourly basis but expects that a project of this size could cost between
$30,000 - $45,000.
To minimize their time, Chuck has asked that I work closely with WAI
representatives on the project. There are many things that I can take the lead on and
oversee while having WAI to provide guidance and the expertise in dealing with
construction problems. They have agreed to provide us with a milestone figure of
$30,000 but we may also request reports at anytime throughout the project.
The resolution would authorize WAI to represent the City, when needed, regarding
the Community Center Project. I believe that their expertise is critical to ensuring
that the City gets the quality that they are expecting within the timeframe needed for
all players.
•
n`
Director Economic Development
