Chuck Whiting, City Administrator .
Page 2
June 18, 1997
upgraded staircase and can which Game Time has agreed to do. The Parks and Recreation
Commission suggested that working with MN Playground Inc makes sense and therefore made.a
motion that I pursue the upgrades and new components for Groveland Park. The Parks and
Recreation Commissioners selected a color scheme for the new playground which is a
combination of blue, gray and tan.
MN Playground Inc has provided a price cut for cash with order discount if before June 30, 1997.
This savings is $1,649.35 and is included in the proposal. Therefore if ordered after June 30,
1997 the cost of the playground equipment will increase by$1,649 over the $20,000 proposal or
the need to take out components of the playground plan would be necessary.
With limited park replacement funds for this project, it makes sense to work with the
manufacturer to upgrade components that can be modified and add the equipment components to
replace the structure that has worn out with longevity to receive the"biggest bang for the buck".
This is what staff has attempted to do as recommended by the Parks and Recreation Commission.
If approved by the City Council, the playground equipment would be ordered immediately
anticipating a 4-6 week delivery with installation anticipated August or September.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the purchase of new playground equipment for Groveland
Park at a cost of$20,000 to be purchased from MN Playground Inc
as per the proposal and funded through Park Improvement Capital
100 -4360 -703 - 000 as budgeted for 1997 Park Improvements.
•
