Patrick has been a Planning Director in the past, and perhaps would be available on a part time basis to oversee these projects and to provide guidance to the staff. I have full confidence in Tim Ericson to handle most of the planning applications and code enforcement, and to deal with planning issues at the counter. He is a very steady, conscientious and capable person, but I feel it would be unfair to him to ask him to fill the entire gap. The workload is such during the summer that it would be very difficult for him to carry his normal load of planning projects and code enforcement, and also to carry the projects that I have been doing until the new director is selected. I would like to meet with you as soon as possible to begin the transition and to decide priorities for what needs to be done in the next six weeks. I plan to take 4-5 days off during the third or fourth week of July to pack. My sister will be coming from California to help me. I plan to be in the office on July 28 and 29. The moving van is coming on July 31. Once again, this last year has been a wonderful experience for me. I am very glad I had the opportunity to live in Minnesota, my father's home state, and to experience a very progressive approach to planning and community development. The many contacts I have had with the Community Development Directors in neighboring cities, the Forum on the First Ring suburbs, • the work on the 35W Corridor and the Highway 10 Corridor have been inspiring. I am so glad that the Mounds View Community Center is going forward, and that it will serve as an anchor for the"Heart of Mounds View" which is beginning to emerge. I look forward to returning to Mounds View to visit in the future, and to see the wonderful fruition of these endeavors. I would like an opportunity to tell my staff prior to this becoming general knowledge in the organization. I.would also like to notify the Planning Commission at their meeting on Wednesday, June 25 but understand that you may want to let the City Council know beforehand.
