Item No. i 11
Staff Report No. —
Meeting Date: 7-14-97
• Type of Business: CA
WK: Work Session;P11:Public Hearing;
CA:Consent Agenda;CB:Council Business
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Mayor and City C uncil
From: Lynnette Morga
Item Title/Subject: Recording Secre ary Service Agreement
Date of Report: July 9, 1997
The City Council authorized hiring a part-time recording secretary for Planning Commission
meetings. During the interim period staff recognized the finanicial benefits of utilizing
contractual services versus city employment. Contractual service significantly reduces meeting
costs.
Several cities such as Anoka, Blaine, Brooklyn Center, Coon Rapids and Spring Lake Park use
service providers for recording secretary services. The attached contract, reviewed by Attorney
Long, with David Hix indicates the meeting time at$15/hour and a per page rate of$5. David
currently provides recording secretary services for the cities of Vadnais Heights and Osseo.
• The average meeting cost is reduced by 50% using the service contract figures instead of an
hourly rate. Staff recommends the approval to enter into a recording secretary service agreement
with David Hix.
