Our existing
Comprehensive Plan was completed in 1977 and adopted in 1982. While Mounds View continues to
be a community of quiet single family residential neighborhoods, with country-style streets and
abundant trees, the character of the community is changing. Three business parks have been developed
close to the I-35W Corridor in recent years. Mounds View is also experiencing strong interest in the
marketplace for doing development and redevelopment projects along the Highway 10 Corridor.
Several major projects have been approved or are under review. This is a very opportune time to
revisit our goals and re-examine our vision for the future of our community, and to update our
development requirements to make sure they are working to carry out the vision. The comprehensive
planning process will be very helpful in this regard. We are also expecting to use this process to pull •
together several important planning efforts that are underway. These include work on Highway 10
redevelopment, creation of the Mounds View City Center and ring road, work being done by the North
Metro I-35W Corridor Coalition, and further expansion of our neighborhood and housing improvement
program.
With this letter, the City of Mounds View is submitting its request for a local planning assistance grant
in the amount of$20,000 to assist us in preparing a Comprehensive Plan Update. Our application
includes City Council Resolution No. 5143 authorizing the filing of the application, and the work plan,
budget and proposed time line for accomplishing the update, as requested in the application
instructions. Our budget includes a commitment of$73,200 of local funds to go with the amount
requested from the Metropolitan Council. The$20,000 grant represents 21.5%of the total project
budget.
Please contact either Chuck Whiting, City Administrator, or Cathy Bennett,Economic Development
Director if you have questions about our application.
Sincerely,
CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW
Duane McCarty, Mayor
N:\DATA\USERS\PAMS.SHAREISPECPROJtSP004.96\CPGRANr.LET •
•••
46 PRIMO
ITH 2401 Highway 10• Mounds View, MN 55112-1499 •
SOY INK,,,, Ica%recycled weal
Equal Opportunity Employer
