3 . Fairways - All Areas of Play Except Greens, Tees and Natural Growth <br /> Areas, Including Driving Range <br /> The objective is to produce a fine fairway turf that will withstand <br /> moderately close mowing and will be tolerant to summer heat and <br /> humidity with a minimum of damage; to produce a turf which is free <br /> of unwanted grasses, weeds and disease; and to develop an <br /> agronomically sound, soil, drainage, fertility and quality turf <br /> product; and to produce a fairway turf for golf that will be firm <br /> enough to hold the ball up and not become matted or fluffy. <br /> • <br /> A. Mowing - All fairways shall be mowed three times per week at a <br /> height of 1/2" - 7/8" from May through September and at least <br /> weekly during other months of operation. <br /> B. Aerification - All fairways shall be aerified a minimum of two <br /> / (2) times per year, in the fall and in the summer. Aerification <br /> holes shall not exceed a spacing of eight inches on center or be <br /> of a diameter bf less than 1/2" . <br /> C. Fertilization - All fairways shall be fertilized with nitrogen, <br /> phosphorous, potash, or other elements as needed to maintain <br /> color, growth, and health of the turf, without allowing <br /> excessive or excessively succulent growth. <br /> D. Vertical Mowing - All fairways will be vertically mowed as <br /> necessary to control mat or thatch build-up. • <br /> E. Weed Control - Fairways shall be kept weed free to an extent of <br /> at least 90% of the area by the proper and timely application of <br /> pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides . <br /> F. Topdressing - All worn areas in the fairways and especially in <br /> the landing areas, shall be topdressed as needed to fill divots <br /> • and level the fairway surface. Topdressing materials shall <br /> contain seed of annual or perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass <br /> or other types as approved by the COUNTY. <br /> 4 . Roughs - All areas of lav except greens, tees, fairways and natural <br /> growth areas <br /> A. Mowing - All roughs shall be mowed weekly from May through <br /> September and as necessary during the other months of operation, <br /> at heights of 3/4" - 2" . Rough mowing height shall not exceed <br /> 2" without the approval of the COUNTY. - -, <br /> B. Aerification - as necessary to establish and/or maintain turf. <br /> C.
