The policy implements the requirements of the Federal Omnibus <br /> Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and the U.S. Department of Transportation <br /> Regulations, 49 C.F.R., Part 382. The policy is in addition to and separate from the City's Drug <br /> and Alcohol Testing Policy, which implements the requirements of state law and the federal <br /> Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988. <br /> The policy is intended only to establish rules necessary under 49 C.F.R. Part 382. The City and <br /> its employees may have other rights and obligations under state and federal law. <br /> All employees who operate commercial motor vehicles on behalf of the City shall comply with <br /> the terms of this policy. The City requires that all employees report to work on time, either <br /> scheduled work hours or call-back, iri appropriate condition for work. Any employee found to be <br /> in violation of this policy is subject to discipline up to and including termination of employment. <br /> The entire policy is included in the Reference Section of this manual. <br /> POLICY: EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION <br /> Approved By: City dministrator Section: 1.25 <br /> Revision History: 1994, 1997 <br /> New Employee Orientation was developed in an effort to help a new employee to become <br /> acquainted with the responsibilities of the position, the organization, and to develop a sense of <br /> belonging, loyalty and interest in the City. Full-time employees will be introduced to the City • <br /> through the New Employee Orientation Program. <br /> The new employees respective department head will assist with the orientation process in a <br /> cooperative manner following the guidelines as outlined below. <br /> Procedures <br /> In addition to the offer of employment letter, a Handbook will be provided welcoming the new <br /> employee aboard. The employee is requested to bring the Handbook the first day on the job. <br /> The new employee will report to the department head on the first day of employment. The <br /> individual responsible for orientation will meet with the new employee, making sure the new <br /> employee is receiving the proper information from the assigned supervisor and department <br /> head. As a guideline to ensure all policies are covered, the individual responsible for <br /> orientation should utilize the Employee Orientation Checklist located in the reference section of <br /> this manual. <br /> As part of the orientation process, (the "employee designate"), will schedule the employee to <br /> meet with each department head during the first week of employment. Meetings within each of <br /> the departments will provide the employee with an opportunity to meet all department heads <br /> and discuss the purpose and organization of the unit. As part of this meeting, the Department <br /> Head will introduce the new employee to the members of the department and take the <br /> employee on a tour of the department and its facilities. <br />
