Finance Department Accounting System Search and Results • <br /> I. Conducted an informal poll of Twin City area cities of like size and similar needs. <br /> A. What system are you currently using in the Finance Department? <br /> B. Are you satisfied with your present system? <br /> C. Are upgrades timely and support available and accurate? <br /> D. If you are presently looking, what are you looking at and why? <br /> II. Generated a list of possible software vendors from this poll and a list provided by the <br /> Intergovernmental Information Systems Advisory Council. <br /> III. Visited vendors and requested information while attending the Government Finance Officers <br /> Association convention. <br /> A. What is the average size of the cities you are currently serving? <br /> B. If appropriate, send information regarding your software's capabilities and pricing. <br /> IV. Reviewed packets received. <br /> A. Called vendors with questions more specific to our needs. <br /> B. Reviewed general pricing for reasonableness. <br /> . 1. Systems ranged from extremely simple and rigid to quite complex and costly. <br /> 2. Cost constraints and the desire to keep it simple helped to narrow the search. <br /> V. Invited the most promising candidates to demonstrate systems. <br /> A CMS <br /> 1. Simple system, easy to set up but somewhat inflexible. <br /> 2. Affordable. <br /> 3. No Project Management module. <br /> 4. Workable with some concessions on our part in the area of Payroll. <br /> 5. Good Utility Billing package. <br /> 6. Have converted some CSI customers already so they have good conversion <br /> experience. <br /> B. Pace <br /> 1. System can be as simple or as complex as you need. Requires more set up <br /> time because of this. <br /> 2. Still in the affordable range. <br /> 3. Workable with no concessions as to our needs. <br /> 4. References very happy with conversion/training/support and results. <br /> 5. Regional firm with many users in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. <br /> 6. New, but tested, software. Indicates no near term changes. . <br /> 7. Large support staff. <br />
