•
&
r N1
P
September 9, 1994
Dear Parks Administrator:
In an effort to improve law enforcement in park settings in
Minnesota, an attempt is being made to form an organization of
those persons whose major function is enforcement in parks. To
assist in this process, we are contacting all park departments
within the state to determine who, if anybody, has such
responsibilities in their park system.
It is our goal to form a statewide association of park law
enforcement individuals similar to one that already exists on
the national level (PLEA) and in a number of other states.
Those associations memberships include park rangers, forest
rangers, park police, park patrols, park security, game
wardens, conservation officers, park and re,Creation board
members, administrators, educators and others. They take
advantage of their similar agency missions to combine resources
for mutual training and informatiion sharing. Like those
organizations, we plan to affiliate with our local recreation
and parks association (MRPA) .
We have a unique opportunity this year as Minneapolis is
hosting the annual congress of our national organization (NRPA)
and we anticipate. a number of national figures in park law
enforcement to be in town as well. We are planning a get
together for local and national park enforcement officials
during the congress.
If your parks have personnel assigned to perform exclusive or
extensive duty on a regular or seasonal basis, would you please-
do two things for us. First, would you please provide the
information requested in the enclosed short survey. In
addition, would you please provide those people with the
information in the flyer asking them to join the Minnesota Park
Law Enforcement Association (MNPLEA) and consider attending the
get together in October.
•
Thank you for taking the time to respond to this request.
Sincerely,
Sergeant J.
