•
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
PARKS:
* We met with the sewer subcontractor on Wednesday to determine pathway to
the park buildings, time line and procedures. Staff will notify neighborhood
residents of the work to be done and the probability that the streets (Hillview
and Fairchild) will be closed for 1-2 days.
* There is a long list of projects to try to finalize before winter, but find it difficult
to get to these until the grass stops growing and we can get off the mowers
and into these smaller projects including - installation of two benches at
Greenfield, replacement of hockey boards at Hillview, fountain set-up at
Oakwood, repair of City Hall BBQ, completion of City Hall ballfield, spot
seeding, etc.
* We are happy to be able to set up a pleasure skating rink at Woodcrest Park.
The neighborhood will really appreciate it.
RECREATION:
* Sharie will be setting up the financial budget brochure this week. Then she will
jump right into the November/December Newsletter preparation.
* The National Recreation and Parks Association Conference is being held here in
Minneapolis, Minnesota this year, October 12 - 16. The last time it was here
was in 1981 . Both Mary and I will be attending and Dana, our intern, will be
volunteering so that she can also attend a few sessions for free. Mary has been
working on a Conference Committee for this National. Because Sharie will be
on the Washington D.C. trip during this time, we have Marcia Rosenberg, city
resident, former Math teacher coming in to answer the phone and receive and
log registrations in our absence. I will also be attending an Institute on Tuesday,
October 11 .
* We are putting together our November/December program of activities. This is
a fun time to program because of all the special events and holidays. During
this particular time we concentrate on family and special events rather than
classes, because school vacations, school conferences and other school events
make availability of the schools a little irregular.
