Business Retention:
• This week I met with ViCom - Bakers Square. The company is the production
and distribution center of Bakers Square products for the Midwest. The parent
company is located out of Denver and also owns the Village Inns. They chose
Mounds View because of the central location and the labor supply. Prior to
locating in Mounds View they had operations in Burnsville and Hopkins. They
have invested a lot of capital in their facility and are expected to be here for an
indefinite time. When we asked what the one thing the City could do to make it
more attractive for businesses, the response was to bring in a major hotel
where conferences could be held -- of course they would want to supply the
pies!
• I will be meeting with Mounds View Antiques this week. I will be starting a
new section in the newsletter called "Focus on Mounds View Businesses".
Mounds View Antiques is a good place to start. Amilia at Mounds View
Antiques is ecstatic about being featured. This is a good way to make our
businesses feel special!
Outreach:
• I sent the Community Profile to all of those people who have commercial
property for sale or lease in Mounds View plus other people at the State and
NSP who do site selection. I also sent copies to TJB Homes and Birchwood
Realty.
• October is Manufacturers' Recognition Month and a Mounds View business will
be highlighted by the Suburban Area Chamber of Commerce. Multi-Tech
Systems will host a tour and the breakfast networking on October 12th at 8:00
am. I encourage the Mayor, Council Members and EDC Members to attend. If
you are interested please let me know and I will RSVP for you.
• To show our appreciation for the manufacturing businesses in Mounds View,
will draft a letter from the Mayor and include an acknowledgment in the
newsletter.
Cathy
